Consider the adage that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Is it time to change your approach? In this keynote you will learn a strategy to reframe your approach and solve old problems in new ways.
Olympic medalist John K. Coyle, shares the story of how he eschewed his coaches’ advice and quit trying to fix his weaknesses. Instead, he applied “Design Thinking” to his training, focusing on his core strengths, which led to a world-record-breaking performance. Individuals, teams, and schools can learn this method to identify and leverage their unique strengths (and design around weaknesses). By restructuring individual approaches and team collaboration to maximize native strengths, schools can leap from incremental improvement to breakthrough performance.

Collective Teacher Efficacy: Building a Culture of Impact
Collective teacher efficacy (CTE) has the greatest, positive effect on student achievement; this effect is 2-3 times greater than socioeconomic status (Hattie, 2021). As an educational leader, honing the skills to promote CTE within a school setting is vitally important to the culture and climate of a school community and its effect on student academic success. Digging into Albert Bandura's (1997) social cognitive theory and current research behind CTE, participants will build knowledge of the theoretical framework as well as begin to create a bank of strategies to foster the environment that enables CTE in the school setting. Current leadership research can be intentionally embedded into the process of building CTE and leads to various ways to frame how a leader does so. With post-pandemic learning loss and a hit in school culture, there is no time better than now to focus on building CTE throughout our school communities.

Community Relationship-McCook Bison Days-Community Led Mini-Courses
The Bison Days program is a program to help build relationships between students, teachers, and community volunteers. The idea of the program is to allow a view into the idea that there’s a person behind the teacher, and there’s a person behind the students. Bison days will be held during February 2022, right now the proposed dates are the 6th and 7th. As part of this program for two days, community members and teachers will run classes such as sewing, cooking, self-defense, and auto detail. The classes are designed to give students the opportunity to explore new hobbies or experience the work done by McCook businesses. This program will help students discover newfound common ground with their teachers and community. The program will consist of partnering with 30-35 community members and businesses to help provide the instruction for the 80-85 classes that will be offered over the 2 days for all students at the high school.

Career Pathways and STEM-related education is taking off across the country. Teachers and administrators have a significant challenge as they work to prepare students for a constantly changing future. In this breakout session, we will focus on some of the key issues facing CTE education. Which careers are now included in CTE spaces? How does the building need to adapt to these teaching and learning opportunities? How can schools involve local industries in training their future workforce? From Enragement to Engagement: Improving Student Behavior by Increasing Student Engagement
Even in the best programs, motivation may be lacking, interest levels may be low, boredom creeps in and behaviors tend to increase. Depending on the setting, this can be a perfect storm of discontent for both the teachers and the students. It doesn’t have to be that way, though. This presentation will help teachers to develop ways to keep students engaged in a meaningful curriculum and create an experience that is pleasurable for both the teacher and the child. Also addressed will be what to think about when developing your programming for students to enhance engagement and behavior strategies that can encourage engagement. A variety of models, including the Unified Learning Model (ULM) and Marzano’s work on engagement, will be discussed.

Ideation Automation
The first of several steps towards healing for a student struggling with depression is to admit they are struggling. Omaha Public Schools developed a digital process to confidentially and securely understand directly from students what they are experiencing, complete with support from district counseling staff a risk inventory that identifies the level of risk for the student and recommends the therapeutic intervention that is most likely to help the student. Results include improved continuity and consistency in supports for ideating students, system-level data to inform - among other things - when during the school year social-emotional learning lessons are most necessary for delivery, the effectiveness of currently available treatments for students, and a significant reduction in the time required for staff to document their efforts to support ideating students giving them more time for therapeutic intervention and referrals.

This topic and new practice in Nebraska have even caught the eye of the US Department of Education. The presentation will be facilitated by ESU #3 and will include a panel of 5-6 Superintendents in Nebraska representing urban and rural districts of different sizes. They will share their district journey in making this decision, the impact of this program so far, and their plans to sustain the program. How Do I Know I am an Effective School Leader?
We know school leadership is much more than just managing people and getting tasks done, it involves inspiring and motivating individuals to reach their full potential. But as a school principal, one of the hardest questions to answer is, "How do I know if I am an effective leader?" Join us to explore this question through the lens of the “educator data”. When analyzed with the right tools and mindset, educator data can serve to build a leader’s self-awareness and in turn be used to build capacity within the system by raising the expectations of ownership, collaboration, and communication.
You don’t want to miss this opportunity because it is the first step in rethinking school leadership support and development and serves as the roadmap to effective systems leadership and your insight and input matters! Come join the S.E.E.D. team to learn more about this very thoughtful, intentional, and innovative approach to supporting school leaders to maximize their impact and influence!

Nebraska Math Readiness Project: A Bridge to College Math Success
Each year thousands of Nebraska students graduate from high school unprepared for college-level math courses. Once in college, these students spend valuable time and money on prerequisite courses, which can create a barrier to degree or program completion. Created by all six Nebraska community colleges, the Nebraska Math Readiness Project (NMRP) has spent five years successfully working with 67 districts of every size in every corner of the state. Working in a blended classroom environment in the high school, students are obtaining mastery of math and create a bridge to college-level math courses. These students are entering and persisting in college at a greater rate, achieving success in college math at higher levels, and earning higher college GPAs. Come find out how your district can join NMRP and how your students can benefit from this powerful math intervention starting this year.

Practical Solutions for Special Education Teacher Retention: Get SET Nebraska
A study commissioned by NDE in 2021 found that 16% of Nebraska’s special education teachers plan to leave the field prior to retirement and 21% were unsure of how long they would remain in the profession. Research suggests that special education teachers who receive induction and mentoring and feel supported by administrators are more likely to remain in the field. Since your teachers serve the most vulnerable population, it is essential they have the collaborative support and skills they need to feel confident and effective. Get SET Nebraska’s goal is to assist your district with implementing evidenced-based retention strategies to keep special education teachers working in the field. This session will introduce you to Nebraska-specific data related to special education shortages, identify four critical areas of support and offer you practical solutions to support your teachers. Participants will leave with knowledge and tools to impact school climate for special education teachers.

Research for the Real World
In this session, recent Doctor of Education (EdD) graduates share their research and its practical implications for school leadership. 1) Have you ever wondered what it takes to maximize student growth in a grade level with vastly different student needs? One school asked this very question and sought to find a hybrid solution between tracking and mixed-ability classrooms that would meet the needs of all students. Come find out what they learned from this improvement science case study that focused on accelerating recovery of disrupted learning using a strategy called flexible grouping. 2) Distributing leadership in rural schools is critical for administrator survival. Can giving leadership responsibilities to teachers actually improve their satisfaction and reduce burnout as well?

Student Behavior-Approaches that Won’t Fuel the Fire
While the term "ACEs" (Adverse Childhood Experiences) might be familiar to professionals in special education and psychology, the challenges that accompany high ACE scores often fall on regular education teachers, administrators, and support staff. Unfortunately, not everyone has the tools necessary to effectively support the student. This session will examine the importance of considering an ACE score for a student who struggles and provides some insight into how those students can best be supported in all environments. Presenter Lori Broady is a teaching and learning specialist with a specific interest in supporting teacher and student mental health challenges in the regular ed classroom. Dani Niss is a special education coordinator, which includes managing a Level 3 behavior and life skills program, consulting on general classroom behavior systems and strategies, and facilitating de-escalation, restraint, and seclusion training for educators.
