A study commissioned by NDE in 2021 found that 16% of Nebraska’s special education teachers plan to leave the field prior to retirement and 21% were unsure of how long they would remain in the profession. Research suggests that special education teachers who receive induction and mentoring and feel supported by administrators are more likely to remain in the field. Since your teachers serve the most vulnerable population, it is essential they have the collaborative support and skills they need to feel confident and effective.
