Nationwide, there are significant educator shortages for teachers and school administrators. In the past 20 years, school administrator turnover has increased, with principal turnover surpassing rates of teacher turnover. In response, school districts have focused efforts on retaining teachers and administrators and considering ways to develop capacity in order to support greater stability and less personnel turnover time. The NexGen Leadership Academy at UNK provides a model for university and K-12 school district partnerships to develop system-wide capacity. This session will provide information about the program and share updated data collected around building teacher leader and principal capacity.
